Sakabula Circuit and Hela Hela

On Sunday the 11th of Jan I was in one of my driving to no where moods. I convinced Marianne that we should go to Tala game reserve. Alison, one of my collegues recommend it. It is about 80km from Umdloti. For wild life lovers this really is a paradise. They don't have the big 5 but with the grassland it is easy to see the resident animals. We spotted Rhinos, Giraffes, Blue wildebeast, Impala, Zebra, Hippos and a fish eagle. Leaving Tala we filled up at the Eston petrol garage. On the way we passed a sign showing
the Sakabula circuit. That looked interesting. The drive took us about 3 hours to complete. You leave the tar road about 15km from Ix0po. First you ascend the mountains and then descend via the Hela Hela mountain pass into the Umkomazi valley. On the way down we passed the Highover camping ground. The Umkomazi river was in full flow and I imagine the white water kayak operators are having a roaring time in this area. a Couple of kilometers we joined a tarred road to Richmond. From there you join the N3 and the mad rush home.

This was one of those drives to tick of the list and only go back when you have a couple of days to camp in the area.
